As 2011 draws to a close it’s time to look around the world at what we’ve accomplished for dolphins and how your help is paying off.

In major hot spots where dolphins are under threat, our team keeps answering the call.  I know you care passionately about dolphins and hope you’ll help me with as generous a year-end donation as you can make. DONATE HERE

In TAIJI, JAPAN  I joined our team and 18 volunteers from 7 countries to press for an end to the slaughter.

We’re keeping Cove monitors in Taiji, and the dolphin killing is down, but not over.  Dolphin meat sales have plummeted by more than 30% in the past year, and we aim to drive it far lower.

This work isn’t easy or safe.  The Japanese government has a new contingent of policemen and a full-sized Coast Guard vessel to “protect” the dolphin killers, spending big bucks to fight off the worldwide pressure we are bringing.

Especially after the earthquake/tsunami/nuclear meltdown, it is ludicrous that Japan is pouring money into subsidizing the killing of dolphins and whales.  But we will not rest until the killing stops.

In INDONESIA we succeeded this year in getting a national ban on the capture of dolphins, built the first ever dolphin rescue/release seapen, and are awaiting confiscation of illegally caught dolphins so that we can rehab and release them to their home waters.

In the SOLOMON ISLANDS we reached agreement with tribes stopping the killing of thousands of dolphins every year and forced out the main dolphin trader.  As of January 1, 2012, there will be a national ban on all further dolphin captures.

These are big wins, but there is far more work to do and I can’t do this alone.  I need your help today with a generous year-end tax-deductible donation.  I promise you it will go a long way for dolphin protection. DONATE HERE

I’ve been living largely out of my suitcase this year, fighting for dolphins in Japan, Thailand, Singapore, Denmark, Faroe Islands, Germany, the Philippines, St Maartin and many other places to come. Our team at Earth Island Institute works tirelessly and effectively.

On behalf of all dolphins swimming in their natural ocean home and those that are desperate for our help, thank you again for all you can do.

In Peace,
